CDL TRAINING

 Custom Made Products has been helping individuals get their CDL   licenses for  over 17 years, with over 5,000 satisfied customers.

Important things to know before you call us:

1. We can only help residents of the state of Iowa.

2. All written tests must be taken and passed by the individual before we can schedule you for a driving time. (Make sure to take your ORIGINAL social security card.)

3. Payment for the course is due the day that you train.  No personal checks, please!

4. You must have the "Learner's Permit Endorsement", (cost of $12) on your license so that you can legally drive our truck with our trainer before you come to train.

We offer training for 3 types of CDL licenses.  Class A, Class B, and Class D-1.

• Class A - Tractor and trailer license.  Cost is $250.  There are 3 written tests to take for this license:

  • General Knowledge (must be less than 6 months old)

  • Combination (must be less than 90 days old)

  • Airbrakes (must be less than 90 days old)

   

• Class B - Tractor with no trailer (e.g. straight truck).  Cost is $200.  There are  2 written tests to take for this license:

  • General Knowledge (must be less than 6 months old)

  • Airbrakes (must be less than 90 days old)

   

• Class D-1 - Farmer's license (can only haul farm products within 150 air miles from the farm).  Cost is $150.  There is 1 written test to take for this license.

  • General Knowledge (must be less than 6 months old)

How our training works:

 Once you have your written tests passed and the learner's permit obtained, give us a   call to set up an appointment.  We train Tuesdays through Fridays in the mornings.     Your training slot with us will depend on when your scheduled drive time is with the DOT.  We will take care of setting up your time with the DOT for you, but keep in mind that the DOT is potentially booked up to a month in advance.  In most cases, we can get you trained and tested in the same day.

Our focus in the training is to get you through the DOT's driving test.  You will train and test in our truck (pictured above), which is a single axle day cab automatic transmission with a 24' grain trailer or van trailer.  Our trainer will instruct you in these areas:

• Pre-Trip Inspection (card provided)

• Skills

• Driving

• Backing

• Parking

• Route that you will drive with the DOT examiner

Our trainer will stay with you through the entire process and answer any questions that you may have.  Training is done right in the parking lot of the DOT in Fort Dodge when   the weather is nice, and in our heated shop in Humboldt during the winter.

If you would like to stay in a hotel in conjunction with your training, we do have an arrangement with the Days Inn in Fort Dodge.  Let us know ahead of time so that we    can make the reservation for you.  The cost for 1 person is $45 per night, and $50 per night for two people.
